Michele Bachmann explains the financial crisis to Occupy Wall Street

Jai singh | 21:59 | | | | | | | | | Be the first to comment!
A couple of standout takeaways at tonight's Team R debate at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. I'll hit my favorites in a couple of posts.

At first opportunity, Michele Bachmann spoke the truth. There's no other correct answer to the question "Why?", to explain our economic meltdown, other than pointing to the decades of Democrats who used the Federal Government to intervene in our financial well-being for to advance their moving-ever-further LEFT ideology.

From Suntimes (where there is a complete transcript)...

TUMULTY: Congresswoman Bachmann, three years after the financial meltdown, Main Street continues to suffer. People have lost their jobs, they've lost their homes, they've lost their faith in the future. But Wall Street is thriving. The banks not only got bailed out by the government, they have made huge profits, they've paid themselves huge bonuses.

Do you think it's right that no Wall Street executives have gone to jail for the damage they did to the economy?

BACHMANN: I think if you look at the problem with the economic meltdown, you can trace it right back to the federal government, because it was the federal government that demanded that banks and mortgage companies lower platinum level lending standards to new lows.

TUMULTY: But the federal government has also deregulated them.

BACHMANN: It was the federal government that pushed the subprime loans. It was the federal government that pushed the Community Reinvestment Act. It was Congressman Barney Frank and also Senator Chris Dodd that continued to push government-directed housing goals.

They pushed the banks to meet these rules. And if banks failed to meet those rules, then the federal government said we won't let you merge, we won't let you grow.

There's a real problem, and it began with the federal government, and it began with Freddie and Fannie. If you look at these secondary mortgage companies which the federal government is essentially backing 100 percent, they put American mortgages in a very difficult place.

We had artificially low interest rates, Freddie and Fannie were the center of the universe on the mortgage meltdown, and we had lending standards lowered for the first time in American history. The fault goes back to the federal government, and that's what's wrong with Dodd- Frank.

Dodd-Frank institutionalized all of these problems that were put into effect by the federal government. That's why I introduced the bill to repeal Dodd-Frank. It's the Jobs and Housing Destruction Act.

Here that, #OWS? If anyone should be frog-marched to prison for causing the financial collapse, it should be Democrats Barney Frank and Chris Dodd, firstly. Because of their Leftist ideology, they put together and sustained programs that've all but destroyed the financial sector of this Republic.

It was Democrat's 'helpful' but heavy-handed pushing of socialism, the creation of laws that caused the meltdown: specifically, the jaded practice of give-'em-feel-goods-for-power-and-votes Community Reinvestment Act (thanks! Jimmy Carter, ramped up by Bill Clinton after being largely ignored by Ronald Reagan and Bush I) for the specific purpose of garnering votes from their Gimme stuff NOW! constituency. Add ACORN and other 'Community Organizers', and you've got yourself a powerful political machine that advanced this faulty ideology at the expense of our very future.

A slick swap, America's future sold out so Democrats could keep political power, feeding on emo-envy that was stoked (and continues to be stoked) by Democrats who 'Community Organize'. Barack Obama, you listening? Keep up that 'class warfare' now, you hear?

If Michele Bachmann, or any Team R player, could just get this message out there to the mush heads...

Here's a hard-hitting preview of things to come. Helluva job, Mr. Perry.

You're a Good Man.

Oh, and this Day by Day cartoon spotted here (where there is an updated Gunrunner - Fast and Furious (.pdf) file that keeps us up to date on this developing scandal, Obama's Watergate), because there's no chance I'd let a reference to the best western movie (next to Unforgiven, of course) escape my notice..

Sarah Palin's Iowa Speech discomfits both Republicans and Democrats

Jai singh | 18:45 | | | | Be the first to comment!
Which is just as it should be (Sarah Palin's complete speech, in video, at the link).

After all, "The entire establishment political class is corrupt." Neither Party wants to hear what Sarah Palin has to say. Witness both the expected jeers from the frothing Left, and the bemusement from Karl Rove, representing the 'establishment' Republican Party on the 'right'.

This image includes a photo of Sarah Palin's bus parked outside Indianola this weekend. Look closely and see the flaming Obama logo setting in the background, fittingly enough.

An apt analogy, I think, of what's occurring; Barack Obama is spectacularly flaming out, a One-Term and Done President who's accomplished Zero in his economic endeavors, instead inflicting tremendous damage to our Republic with his embrace of nouveau Socialism. Sarah Palin, carrying the hope of a brighter future, planting herself firmly in the foreground of American electoral politics.

But even if Sarah Palin doesn't run in 2012, her forthright ideology represents that of a huge swath of Americans, good people, and we do appreciate Sarah's efforts and her tireless support of what is the correct ideology, an ideology that we need to adapt to save this Republic. No, it's not Karl Rove's or Jon Huntsman's or Mitt Romney's, and maybe not even Rick Perry's (I'm still looking him over). Sarah Palin represents the shake-up that our corrupt political class needs.

No matter who is the eventual nominee for Team R in 2010, it's looking like BHO has flamed out.

A pity, that, don't you think?

Michele Bachmann makes a Gaffe! Eric Cantor, the burr under Obama's Saddle! and, Gallup shocks!

Jai singh | 04:53 | | | | | | Be the first to comment!
Andrew Klavan points out Michele Bachmann's numerous gaffes...

Michelle Bachmann is running for president and she's supported by the Tea Party. You know, the "angry" ... "emotional" ... "ugly" middle Americans with "low-sloping foreheads" who believe in constitutional government, lower spending and the rule of law. Let's join our MSM pals and freak out when Bachmann says something so we can let everyone know about it and she won't be elected in 2012. Is this fun or what?

In other news, Eric Cantor (R, VA; Democrat's newest Evil Monster) speaks out to NRO on his performance that sent Barack Obama scuttling like a bug from that infamous White House meeting...

“This is not a game,” Cantor says. “We have serious problems. We have put out very thoughtful proposals to try to address them. But sometimes, around here, that doesn’t always make it through.” ...

The president “got very agitated,” Cantor told reporters Wednesday night at the Capitol. Cantor added that Obama then told him not to “call my bluff,” and said that he would take his argument to the “American people.”

Reflecting on the episode Thursday afternoon, Cantor chuckles over how dramatically the president behaved. He chalks up the heated conversation to politics more than anything. “They’re just not serious,” he says. “Even those things identified in the Biden talks have been cast aside, only touchable if we raise taxes.”

“I was willing to compromise,” Cantor contends. “I said, Mr. President, we want to do it right. I said, I agree with you, we ought not to go beyond August 2. But because the votes are not there in the House, I asked whether he was willing to come off his statement that he will veto that. That’s what led to the blowup.”

The impasse, he predicts, will continue, unless President Obama can agree to work with Republicans on a short-term extension coupled with significant spending cuts. “It is certainly at a point of frustration right now, but we are not giving up hope,” he says. One of the points he keeps making to the president, he says, is that Republicans have already shown that they will share the sacrifice, pointing to the House GOP budget, which tackles entitlement reform, as his main example. Democrats, he says, are the ones who need to show a similar commitment to fiscal discipline.

Still, Cantor wonders whether Obama already has, in essence, shut down the opportunity for a cuts-laden compromise. “I really do question when I’m sitting in the room, hearing the president say that we must not have any movement unless it takes us through the election,” he says. “That, to me, seems very political. I’d like to get it right, rather than just do something.” ...

“I’ve given the vice president credit and will continue to give him a lot of credit,” Cantor says. “He was able to keep apart philosophical differences and focus on how we can reduce spending. But after about six weeks, he began to hear marching orders from the other side of this building. They began to sound the alarm that the cuts had gone too far.” ...

Since then, Cantor says, the discussions have gone downhill, with the White House chipping away at the cuts it had openly considered during the Biden meetings as parts of a possible debt-limit package. Coming out of the Biden talks, Cantor says, “I believed that we were at a $2.2, $2.3 trillion–type number, Well, the president said that he felt like we were more at $1.7, maybe $1.8 trillion if you massage it. Then, yesterday, after staff members met at the White House, we get a paper telling us that the number is barely at $1.4 trillion.”

At about the time the far-left started howling about their 'entitlements' and the 'unfairness!' that the 'evil rich' were allowed to live in relative splendor compared to the dirt-poor and ragged Democrats aimlessly wandering the streets looking for one of Barack Obama's 'shovel-ready' jobs promised on the way after the first couple bailouts (that were nothing more than payoffs to BHO's cronies who got him elected in the first place).

The good news? The latest Gallup polling data suggests that a 'generic' Republican candidate would retire this little dirty socialist prezzidint-man in 2012 by a statistically-significant 8 points.

I could come out, as some maddened and crazed LeftLibProggs say, and proclaim'Game Over'. But I won't say that, because I realize that there's a lot of time between now and November 2012. And things are just getting better for Baracky by the minute, aren't they?

Might not matter who is the GOP nominee...

Jai singh | 06:33 | | Be the first to comment!
...because this BHO fellow is beatable.
“It was truly a landslide and virtually none of us in the media, the political industry or the polling fraternity had foreseen its dimensions,” according to “The Pursuit of the Presidency 1980,” written by several Washington Post reporters. “But the elements for the upheaval had long been present.”

I’m not prepared to predict a Carter-like defeat for President Obama, since it depends on several unknown factors, from who the GOP nominee will be to the state of the economy and the country. But I am prepared to say right now the elements for a 2012 upheaval are in place, much as they were prior to the Reagan landslide and as they were prior to the 2010 epic repudiation of Obama and Democrats. And unless the economy swings around soon and in a fairly substantial way, Mr. Obama will be terrifically vulnerable.
Obama's supporters aren't doing so well...
Three Groups: African-Americans, College/Young Professionals, and Low Income Families. All have seen disproportionately more economic challenges than the general population during Obama's term in office. If the economy is their top issue, then they cannot support the man who has made their lives worse since he took office.
Hope and Change.
That worked out well, didn't it?

One Nation: A bus tour to which that addled blonde Meghan McCain will never get invited.

Jai singh | 06:39 | | | | Be the first to comment!

Our nation is at a critical turning point. As we look to the future, we are propelled by America's past. It's imperative that we connect with our founders, our patriots, our challenges and victories to clearly see our way forward. A good way to do this is to appreciate the significance of our nation's historic sites, patriotic events and diverse cultures, which we'll do in the coming weeks on our "One Nation" tour.

We'll celebrate the good things that bring Americans together; those things that will give us the needed strength to meet the heady challenges ahead. I’ve said many times that America doesn’t need a "fundamental transformation," instead we need a restoration of all that is good and strong and free in America! So, together let’s prepare ourselves for the days ahead by reminding ourselves who we are and what Americans stand for.

We'll celebrate the meaning of our nation's blueprints, our Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, which are the threads that weave our past into the fabric necessary for the survival of American exceptionalism. Our founders declared "we were born the heirs of freedom", and despite our difficulties and disagreements, we remain one nation under God in freedom, indivisible. Through visits to historical sites and patriotic events, we'll share the importance of America's foundation.

We encourage you to support the pro-America events we'll be privileged to participate in during these coming weeks. Discover the ties that bind Americans, our history, our traditions, and the exceptional nature of our country!

(Purportedly) Sarah Palin's new Scottsdale home

Jai singh | 19:05 | | | | Be the first to comment!
Purportedly. But I like what I'm seeing.

And, beautiful. I lived some 20 miles from there, as the crow flies, in Phoenix proper. We had more Date Palms instead of the Saguaros, with canals running to supply the endless need for water.

That's recently reclaimed desert. Prolly less than 30 years ago that was a place you'd go and shoot up tin cans to your heart's content. Now, that spot of land and the fortress-home built on it sells for $1.695 million.

(You know how hard it is to get green grass like that to grow in the desert? Constant use of sprinklers or irrigation; I don't see signs of irrigation there. The pool is just a fiberglass liner thrown into a hole scooped out of the sand; it's a bit small, with no diving board. Looks to be set up for volleyball. Nice to keep that monster Saguaro intact as a centerpiece. Overall, a good looking spread; but I'd have wanted to be up nearer the Superstions and farther away from Phoenix proper.)

If she runs, fine; I'll fully support her. If she doesn't run, fine; but I'm guessing she will beat the living snot out of Obama (figuratively speaking of course), either way. That 'intellectual stammerer' is due for a good career-rocking scandal, any minute now.

We'll see. And we will enjoy every minute of it. ;D

Barack Obama's Weekend Surprise, a Concession to Sarah Palin: DRILL, BABY, DRILL!

The New York Times has Barack Obama's large, stinking front-page concession to Sarah Palin awaiting it's mostly leftwards-leaning readership this morning...

Obama Shifts to Speed Oil and Gas Drilling in U.S.

By JOHN M. BRODER
Published: May 14, 2011

WASHINGTON — President Obama, facing voter anger over high gasoline prices and complaints from Republicans and business leaders that his policies are restricting the development of domestic energy resources, announced on Saturday that he was taking several steps to speed oil and gas drilling on public lands and waters.
Yes, that's correct. The Mighty O! has come around to Sarah Palin's POV.

You might say she's led him by the nose.
It was at least a partial concession to his critics, who say he has shackled domestic energy development at a time when consumers are paying near-record prices at the gas pump. The Republican-led House passed three bills in the last 10 days that would significantly expand and accelerate oil development in the United States, saying the administration was driving up gas prices and preventing job creation with anti-drilling policies.
Quickly, though, the NYT has to offer some caveats so as to keep their leftwards-leaning readership from collapsing in dismay...
Administration officials said the president’s announcement was designed in part to answer these arguments, signal flexibility and demonstrate Mr. Obama’s commitment to reducing oil imports by boosting domestic production. But in fact the policies announced Saturday would not have an immediate effect on supply or prices, nor would they quickly open any new areas to drilling.
If BHO had to make this 'concession to his critics' and he does a half-assed job of it, then that fact will quickly become a weapon to use against him. You start making concessions, BHO, you then open yourself to accountability. No half-measures, like that 'border fence' that isn't.

We must hammer this point across to the American people: that Barack Obama doesn't want gas prices to come down, but he does want to get re-elected. That's all that matters to him right now. Let's drive the point home, and quickly, that his 'concessions' are weak sauce and consist of 'just enough' response to unacceptable energy costs to get him re-upped. Then, after he's sworn in again, we'll be looking at his reversing of these inadequate policies and four years of nightmarish tax increases and energy costs that we won't be able to force him to address, because he'll be out of there in 2016 anyway.

Now is the ONLY time and chance we have to hammer this guy on his far-left policies. Let's get busy.
In his weekly radio and Internet address, the president said the administration would begin to hold annual auctions for oil and gas leases in Alaska’s National Petroleum Reserve, a 23-million-acre tract on the North Slope. The move comes after years of demands for the auctions by industry executives and Alaska’s two senators, Lisa Murkowski, a Republican, and Mark Begich, a Democrat.

The administration will also accelerate a review of the environmental impact of possible drilling off the southern and central Atlantic coast and will consider making some areas available for exploration. The move marks a change from current policy, which puts the entire Atlantic seaboard off limits to drilling until at least 2018.

The president also said he would extend leases already granted for drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and the Arctic Ocean off Alaska that had been frozen after last year’s BP spill. The extension will allow companies time to meet new safety and environmental standards without having to worry about their leases expiring.

The government will also provide incentives for oil companies to more quickly exploit leases they already hold. Tens of millions of acres onshore and offshore are under lease but have not been developed.

The moves come after the House passed a series of bills that would force the administration to move much further and faster to open public lands and waters to oil and gas development. The administration had formally opposed the bills as written, but officials said Friday that the White House might accept some provisions in the bills, like extending the frozen leases in the gulf and in Alaska.
The dirty SOB mentioned Alaska at least three or four times, but notice that this NYT cretin didn't mention Sarah Palin by name even once, nor did he mention "Drill, baby, Drill!".

Sarah Palin, are you listening? Here's your opening. Slip a dirk into these woebegone LeftLibProggs, quickly.
