David Brooks wonders why Conservatives disdain his 'pragmatism'

Jai singh | 05:13 |
Brooks speaks of a moderate Conservative running for Mayor of San Diego, a vet named Fletcher whom Brooks describes in glowing terms. But, Fletch has left the GOP, because he's not getting the support he feels he deserves in the 'new' political climate. It could be Fletcher's better off as an Independent, if he doesn't have to spine it takes to oppose California's Democrat's radicalism (yes, that California, an example of Democratic excellence).

I left a comment to 'Stephen' (the first commenter on the page) thusly...
The problem with that reasoning, Stephen, is that the far-Left - Liberal - Progressive wing has taken over the once-proud Democratic party, and over time they've dragged this Republic farther and farther Left, with the 'blessings' and support of 'pragmatic' Republicans who've displayed no spine when it comes down to opposing the Left's radicalism (and, yes, it's radicalism now). Turns out that to support any of the Left's CHANGE is to 'lose more slowly', and to disagree with a Democrat is, to borrow your phrase, insane. Or RAAAAACIST!, another of your favorite monikers.

There are lines that must be drawn. This Republic is not going to last much longer if we continue to drift Left. No nation can. So, we must discard our 'pragmatics', the Bob Dole - John McCain and the Fletcher - Romney sorts (and the Frum - Brooks 'moderates') - and try to finally counter what's dragging this Republic down. Just as you of the far-Left did with Joe Lieberman.

Oh, and there are no sane Democrats left in this Republic.
We'll see if it gets approved, as was yesterday's.

Just another voice of the loyal opposition, mine, countering the radicals, the looters and moochers, the anti-Constitutionalists, the neo-Marxists. Shorter: countering the Democrats.
